6:30 am – Pierre springs from bed to the sound of his daily alarm — a brick thrown through his bedroom window by frustrated neighbor and Canadiens fan.
6:35 am – Pierre replaces the broken window with Andrei Markov. His wife then shouts from bed, ”Finally justifying that $5.75 million for this year Pierre? Don’t you think we should put someone in there that we can rely on night in and night out?”
Pierre giggles and says, “Very funny. Every time we put Andrei into the lineup a part of his body shatters. He is perfect for this job.”
6:40 am – Pierre opens his front door and picks up his copy of La Presse. The front page article is regarding Montreal’s loss from the night before and how it could have been avoided if the coach could speak French.
Gauthier skips to the classifieds and to his surprise there is no job listing for General Manger of the Montreal Canadiens.
6:45 am – Gauthier is still scanning the classifieds in the kitchen for the Quebec City General Manager job listing. Pierre’s wife enters the kitchen with her Nordiques jersey on:
Wife: “Pierre, today we must begin phase three of the plan.”
Pierre: “Stage 1: Become Canadiens GM. Stage 2: Destroy the team with bad contracts, poor communication, and an English speaking coach”
Wife: “Precisely, now Quebec is outraged. We must secure a second NHL team in Quebec and finally surpass the Canadiens as the dominant NHL franchise in Quebec. Muhahaha”
Pierre joins wife in theatrical villian laughter- “Muhahaha… Muhahahaha.”
This continues for a couple minutes.
7:00 am – Pierre finishes his pancakes with future overpaid Montreal Canadien Dustin Penner.
7:30 am – Gauthier turns NHL 12 for his Xbox on. He enters GM mode where he was demoted to the Hamilton Bulldogs for
poor performance. He simulates the day. All is good in Hamilton for now.
8:00 am – Gauthier gets in his car and drives to Brossard for 8:30 am French lessons with Head Coach Randy Cunneyworth. Following the lesson he apologizes to Randy and the rest of his staff for selecting an English speaking French teacher.
9:00 am – Gauthier is loitering around the rink as players begin arriving for practice. Gauthier says hello to “Mr.” Gomez and “Mr.” Gorges before hiding to avoid communication with any of his other players.
10:30 am – Practice begins as Gauthier watches. He notices some improvements today from newly acquired Rene Bourque, and struggling forward Max Pacioretty. He pulls out his Motorola Razr and begins texting other NHL GMs to let them know how much better the Canadiens are now.
12:00 pm – Gauthier conducts a round of phone calls to other GMs in the league who left messages on his phone about the Canadiens top players. Gauthier calls in special advisor to the GM, Bob Gainey:
Gauthier: “Good morning, Bob. How is the search going?”
Gainey: “Not so well. Everyone we have approached has turned us down. No one wants to take over the mess that you have created here. It looks like you are going to have to stick it out for a while.”
Gauthier: “What if I step down?”
Gainey: “I will tell all of the fans where you live!”
Gauthier: “Touche”
1:00 pm- Gauthier goes for a drive downtown and is forced to make several stops to erase graffiti angry fans left on stop signs in the area. He counted 13 stop signs that said “STOP Gauthier”. Ironically 13 was the jersey number of recently departed Michael Cammalleri.
3:00 pm – Gauthier discusses what to do next with Bob Gainey:
Gauthier: “What should we do this afternoon?”
Gainey: “I think you have done enough damage this year, maybe you should head home for a nap.”
6:00 pm – Gauthier returns to the Bell Centre.
6:30 pm – Gauthier sits down to dinner with Capitals GM George McPhee. Alexander Semin’s name comes up, but is quickly dismissed when Gauthier offers Scott Gomez as trade bait. Dinner ends after McPhee realizes the only real tradable assets the Canadiens have are Travis Moen and Hal Gill.
7:30 pm – Gauthier takes seat in the press box to watch the Canadiens take on Ovechkin and the rest of the Capitals.
7:31 pm- Puck drops. Canadiens fans everywhere cringe…
